Dinner Interrupted...

Last week, we had yet another group of awesome guests from ...well... all over: Australia (Helen), Sweden (?sa), and the United States (Tom)!

Durind dinner, we were toasting to a fantastic day of great animal sightings (Big 5 during the morning AND afternoon safaris), when we heard a male lion calling rather loudly. After a short while, it became very clear to us all that he was VERY close to camp. We quickly ate our dinner and without any hesitation, our Ranger and Tracker had pulled the game viewing vehicle around for us to climb aboard!

We eventually found a large Thornybush male with 3 of his offspring. The big male was showing off and roaring to establish territory wth another male lion that neighbors his turf: the Kapama Lion. Between the two lions is a fence that separates Thornybush from Kapama. Even with this boundary, the males still display and fight for territory. They both roared and snarled at each other, then would chase each other angrily up and down the fence.

We watched the lions for almost 30 minutes before we all decided that it was time to head back to camp for Crème Brulé and coffee!
